UNCW batted around for the fourth time this weekend in an eight-run third inning to build a 9-2 lead.

Austin Magestro (1-0) picked up the win in relief and Jared Gessell struck out the side in the ninth, all looking, for his first save of the season.

Joining Linkous and Mims with two-hit outings for UNCW were Daniel Stack and Robbie Thorburn. Stack knocked in two runs and stole one base.

UNCW sent 11 hitters to the plate and scored eight runs in the third inning off a trio of UR pitchers. Linkous and Mims highlighted the frame with a two-run double and two-run single, respectively.

The Seahawks’ 43 runs scored in the opening weekend were the most since plating 57 runs in a three-game series back in 2006. Gavin Stupienski extended his hitting streak, which dates back to last season, to 10 games.  UNCW also turned three double plays in the ballgame.

UNCW returns to the diamond at home against Coastal Carolina at 4 p.m. on Feb. 23.
