A man and woman have been arrested in connection with trafficking heroin and cocaine into the Wilmington area from out of state.
Donato Garcia, 33, and Kimberly Hope Ramsey, 35, face several felony drug charges, including drug trafficking, following a four-month investigation by the New Hanover County Sheriff’s Office Vice and Narcotics Unit, according to sheriff’s office spokesman Lt. Jerry Brewer.
At the conclusion of their months-long investigation, vice detectives reportedly stopped Garcia and Ramsey while they were in a vehicle outside a home in the 5300 block of Dandelion Drive late Monday night, Brewer said. Detectives executed a search warrant at the home and found 21 grams of heroin and 37 grams of cocaine.
Garcia and Ramsey were booked at the New Hanover County Jail early Tuesday morning, Brewer said. While in her jail cell, Ramsey was allegedly found with an additional 58 grams of pure heroin and packaging material.
“Narcotics detectives were familiar with Donato Garcia from several narcotics investigations in 2005, when he was arrested for trafficking cocaine,” Brewer said.
According to the N.C. Department of Corrections, Garcia has had multiple felony convictions between January 2003 and February 2007, on various charges, including drug possession and trafficking. He was released from state prison on Nov. 19, 2014.
Garcia has been charged with five counts of trafficking in opium or heroin, two counts of trafficking in cocaine, possession with intent to manufacture, sell or deliver heroin, possession with intent to manufacture, sell or deliver cocaine, maintaining a vehicle or dwelling for a controlled substance, and possession of drug paraphernalia.
Ramsey was most recently convicted of possession of a schedule I controlled substance in July 2014 and was placed on 24 months of supervised probation, prison records show.
Ramsey was charged with four counts of trafficking in opium or heroin, three counts of conspiracy to traffic in opium or heroin, two counts of trafficking in cocaine, possession with intent to manufacture, sell or deliver cocaine, possession with intent to manufacture, sell or deliver heroin, maintaining a vehicle or dwelling for a controlled substance, possession of a controlled substance in a prison or jail, and possession of drug paraphernalia.
Ramsey and Garcia were each booked at the New Hanover County Jail under $5 million secured bonds.
