Francis Henry ‘Frank,’ ‘Poppy’ Shields, 80, ‘his greatest joy was being with his family’

Francis Henry “Frank,” “Poppy” Shields, 80, died peacefully on Sunday, February 7, 2016, surrounded by his children, Elaine (Peter) Landin, Frank (Jennifer) Shields, Keven (Ana) Shields, Maureen (Mark) Shaheen and Colleen (Don) Printy.

He is also survived by his brother, Daniel (Helen); and 14 grandchildren, Luke, Kaleigh, Liam, Maggie, Erin, Timothy, Conor, Kaitlyn, Julia, Ryan, Patrick, Aiden, Reagan and Rylee . He was preceded in death by his son, Patrick (Elsie); and wife, Elaine.

Originally from Philadelphia, Pa., Frank spent his summers in Sea Isle, N.J., where he met his wife, Elaine.They raised their six children in Cherry Hill, N.J. Frank moved to Wilmington, 15 years ago to be near his son and daughter. His greatest joy was being with his family.

A Mass of Christian burial will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, February 27, at St. Mark Catholic Church, 1011 Eastwood Rd., Wilmington, NC 28403. The family will receive visitors one hour prior to the service at noon.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the UNBOUND charity, through which Frank sponsored a child.
