William Braxton “Billy” Holland Jr. passed away on Monday, February 15, 2016 at the age of 81.

He was born August 26, 1934, in Sampson County. He was preceded in death by his mother, Florence Foy Register, and was the son of the late William Braxton Holland Sr. and Olivia Drew Holland. He was also preceded in death by his sister, Lottie Jo Skinner of Wilmington.

Billy is survived by his loving wife of 60 years, Christine Southerland Holland; son, Richard Holland, and wife, Diana, of Penderlea; grandson, Matthew Eakins (Sabrina) of Burgaw; brother, James “Buzzy” Holland of Wallace; and numerous nephews, nieces and friends who loved him dearly.

Billy was a devoted husband and wonderful father, grandfather, brother and friend to all he met. He loved working with his hands and being outdoors. You would often see him at the farm on a tractor or in his little red truck checking on things. Billy’s smile and jokes brought comfort and laughter to many. A man of great integrity, Billy will surely be missed, but cherished memories will forever remain in the hearts of those who knew and loved him.

A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. on Thursday, February 18, at Quinn-McGowen Funeral Home, Wallace Chapel. The family will receive friends immediately following the service on Thursday at the funeral home and other times at the home of Michelle Hilliard.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial gifts be sent to North Carolina Poultry Federation, 4020 Barrett Drive, Suite 102, Raleigh, NC 27609.

You may share your memories or send condolences to the family at Quinn McGowan Funeral Home.
