Nadine Marie Leech, nee Waggoner, of Wilmington, N.C., died on Saturday, February 13, 2016, at New Hanover Regional Medical Center.
She was born on February 8, 1926, in Fort Wayne, Ind., the only child of Foster Walker Waggoner and Helen Mary Clark Waggoner. Mrs. Leech graduated from North Side High School in Fort Wayne. She was a member of the National Honor Society, active in high school with Junior Red Cross and Girl Reserves, and junior membership in the YWCA. She was employed for four years as a stenographer with the Allen County Department of Public Welfare.
She married Robert Ross Leech on May 29, 1948, and lived in New Jersey for a short time before moving to Long Island. In 1975, they moved to Mystic, Conn., and joined with her husband, formed their own manufacturer’s representative business. They retired to North Carolina in Hendersonville, later moving to Wilmington in 2000. Mrs. Leech was a lifetime elder and deacon of the United Presbyterian Church (USA) and a current member of Windermere Presbyterian Church in Wilmington.
Known as Deenie to her family and friends, she had a deep faith and found great joy in life.
She is survived by her loving husband of 67 years, Robert R. Leech; daughters, Susan Boardman (Thomas), of Stillwater, Minn., Sandra Chabot (Philip), of Gettysburg, Penn., and Sharon Campton (Raymond), of Martinez, Calif.; eight grandchildren, Cari Lynn (Andrew), Andrea Marie (Timothy), Alexander Ross (Tracy), Zachary Owen (Jennifer), Rebecca Anne, Philip Vernon Jr., Jesse Ross and Chelsea Nicole; and 10 great-grandchildren.
A memorial service will be held at 3:30 p.m. Saturday, February 20, at Windermere Presbyterian Church, 104 Windemere Road, Wilmington, with the Rev. John F. Pflug Jr. officiating. Visitation will be at the church on Saturday from 2:30 p.m. until the service hour. A reception (with light refreshments) will be held at the church immediately following the service.
In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts may be made to the American Cancer Society.
