Coastal Christian boys basketball team secures conference tournament title

The Coastal Christian boys basketball team claimed its first-ever Coastal Rivers Conference Tournament Championship following a 48-39 victory over Parrott Academy.

The boys and girls semifinals got underway from Cape Fear Academy on Friday, with the Centurions grabbing first place in the boys bracket on Saturday. The Fayetteville Christian girls topped Harrells Christian in the girls’ final.

Michael Parker was named Tournament MVP. Brian Howell and Roy Holdford also earned All-Tournament honors.

Coastal Christian defeated Fayetteville Academy 60-47 in their opening game before a big fourth quarter lifted them to their first championship in the program’s nine-year history.

In the title game, the Centurions led 25-23 at the half against Parrott Academy, and maintained a two-point edge headed into the fourth quarter before outscoring their opponents 26-15 in the final eight minutes of regulation.

Coastal Christian now awaits their seed for the upcoming North Carolina Independent School Athletic Association 2A playoffs, which get underway on Tuesday, Feb. 16. The top four teams in the 12-team bracket get a first-round bye.
