Willie E. PadgettWillie Elwood Padgett 71, of Castle Hayne died Wednesday, February 10, 2016, at his home with his family at his side. Willie was born in Wilmington on May 31, 1944, the son of the late Bennie Elwood and Rebie Mobley Padgett.

He is survived by his wife of 52 years, Flora M. Padgett; three daughters, Maria P. Greer, and husband, Darryl, Donna P. Huetcher, and husband, Aaron, Wendy P. Pope, and husband, Philip, all of Wilmington; a sister, Bea Singletary, and husband, Billy, of Wilmington; special niece and nephew, Dawn Dowell and Brian Merritt; and six grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

Willie retired as a carman from CSX Transportation after 32 years of service. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather. His love for his family was only exceeded by his love for his lord and savior, Jesus Christ. Other passions included woodworking, a love for animals, and spending time on the “back porch” with his family and close friends Bob and Karen Morgan.  He will be missed, but we look forward to our next “get together” in heaven.

A memorial service will be conducted at 2 p.m. Saturday, February 13, at Cape Fear Community Fellowship, 10509 US Hwy 117 South, Rocky Point. The family will see friends following the service.

Memorial contributions may be directed to the Lower Cape Fear Hospice Foundation 1414 Physicians Dr. Wilmington, N.C. 28401.

Please share memories and condolences with the family at Wilmington Funeral & Cremation.
