James Larry Martin, 67, enjoyed gardening and golfing

James Larry Martin, 67, of Leland, went home to be with his Lord and Savior on Wednesday, February 10, 2016, at NHRMC after a courageous battle with cancer.

He was born in Columbus County on July 29, 1948, to the late John Henry Martin and Alice Hattaway Martin Dilda. He was an Army veteran who served during the Vietnam era.  He had retired from Fluor Daniel Construction Company, where he worked as a pipefitter.

Larry’s life was an example of Christian service. He loved his church. He also enjoyed gardening and playing golf with his many friends.

Survivors include his wife, Charlotte Clark Martin; two sons, Larry Martin, and spouse, Mark Henderson, and Gary Martin, and spouse, William “Billy”; grandchildren, Carla Jones, and spouse, C.J., Emily Martin, Charlotte Martin “Gracie”, Samuel Martin and Ashley Martin; and four great-grandchildren. Survivors also include his brothers William “Billy” Martin, Harry Martin, and spouse, Nancy; sisters, Jeanette Cumber, Faye Pait and Brenda Bozeman, and spouse, James; many nieces and nephews; and special friends, Tommy and Tammy Turnage.

A memorial service will be held at Winter Park Baptist Church at 11 a.m. on Saturday, February 13, 2016 with the Rev. Mark Teachey officiating. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Winter Park Baptist Church, 4700 Wrightsville Avenue, Wilmington, N.C. 28403.
