New Hanover High School will  have representation at this year’s North Carolina East-West All-Star soccer game after Jack Kiernan received an invite to the prestigious event in Greensboro.

Kiernan has been selected as one of 18 players to represent the East after a standout senior season for the Wildcats’ program.  He served as Team Captain, while scoring 24 goals and tallying four assists at center forward. Kiernan joins two others (Wesley Nelson, Nathaniel Lorenz) from the area to get picked for the match on July 19.

His contributions helped carry the Wildcats to a 20-8-1 overall record and a second straight trip to the East Regional Finals of the 4A state playoffs. Kiernan will be attending the University of North Carolina- Chapel Hill this fall as a student.

“Jack had an incredible senior year this past fall,” said Coach T.J. Rennie. “He led our team as a captain and led the Mideastern Conference in scoring. His maturation as a player and leader were central to the success we had in advancing to the state semifinals.

“Jack is just a great kid, a top-notch student in the classroom and we couldn’t be happier for him or more proud of him.  We know that he will represent New Hanover High School and the Wilmington community with class this summer.”

Kiernan becomes the fifth player from New Hanover over the past four years to represent his school colors one more time during the past two seasons at the annual event, joining Ian Bennett (’15), Franco Fernandez (’15), Tyler George (’14), L.B. Shapiro (’14) and Nikki Tiller (’13).

“It’s a really great honor to be able to represent my school in one last game,” said Kiernan. “I would like to thank my family, my friends, my coach, and my teammates for giving me so much support throughout this season.”
