Dorothy Moore ColemanDorothy Moore Coleman, 78, of Wilmington, passed away on Tuesday, February 9, 2016.

She was born in Supply on February 10, 1937, to the late Mack Allen Moore and Pearl Christine Batson.

Dorothy’s life work was as a registered nurse, wife and mother. As the wife of a U.S. Air Force serviceman, Dorothy worked as a nurse in Okinawa, Hawaii; California; and then back home in Wilmington. In high school and nursing school, Dorothy played basketball and softball. She also participated in the cheering squad at New Hanover High School. In later life, Dorothy was a member of a breast cancer support group and the James Walker Alumni Association.

She was preceded in death by her husband, William Summers Coleman; and her brother, Mack Allen Moore Jr.

She is survived by her three children including Karen Dawn Reynolds, William Lenox Coleman and Monte Carol Coleman. Dorothy is also survived by three grandchildren, Brett William Reynolds, Ashlee Dawn Reynolds and Heather Anne Reynolds; and one great-granddaughter, Brooke Orion Knudsen.

Visitation will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, February 13, 2016 in the mausoleum of Oleander Memorial Gardens. Funeral services will follow at noon with Rev. Jimmy Suggs officiating.
