Herbert Crowell Rivenbark Jr. passed away Sunday, Feb. 7, 2016 following a courageous battle with Parkinson’s Disease. He was 80 years old.

He was the son of Daisy Reid Rivenbark and Herbert Crowell Rivenbark Sr. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by an infant son, Michael Scott Rivenbark.

Herbert was a dedicated member of the N.C. Army National Guard as a reservist for 17 years. Immediately following his retirement as a reservist, he was hired as a technician with the National Guard, where he spent 42 years as a Command Sergeant Major. His entire life was dedicated to the military.

He leaves behind the love of his life of 49 years, Frances Stiles Rivenbark; a daughter, Angela Roethlinger (Patrick); a son, Kevin Rivenbark; and grandchildren, Tyler, Hunter and Reid Roethlinger and Brittany, Michael and McKinley Rivenbark. He is also survived by two sisters, Barbara Smith of Castle Hayne and Mary Lou Pecori of Watertown, New York.

He was a member of St. Stanislaus Catholic Church in Castle Hayne.

A graveside service will be held at Oleander Memorial Gardens at a later date.
