Ken Davis, 71, dedicated volunteer for YMCA children’s programs

Ken Davis, 71, of Wilmington, died Saturday, Jan. 30, 2016 at New Hanover Regional Medical Center.

He was born Dec. 18, 1944 in Wilmington, the son of the late Arthur Eugene and Nellie Davis.

Mr. Davis worked in the transport industry for 27 years before retiring in 2000. He worked with the children’s ministries in several local churches in Wilmington and for the last five years, worked with the children’s programs at the Wilmington Family YMCA. Mr. Davis will be long remembered for his love and devotion for children.

Surviving are his wife of 50 years, Diane Davis; one son, David Davis of South Carolina; one daughter, Crystal Swift and husband John of Wilmington; four grandchildren, Christopher Hewett, Steven Hewett, Jonathan Davis and Brittani Davis; one special great-grandson, Christian; one uncle, J. R. Davis and wife Cheryl of Wilmington; and one cousin, Billy Davis and wife Cindy of Greensboro.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. on Thursday, Feb. 4 at Grace Evangelical Presbyterian Church, 180 NC 210, Hampstead, NC 28443. Interment will follow in Sea Lawn Memorial Park in Hampstead. The family will receive friends from 1 p.m. until the time of the service.

The family would like to thank the nursing staff of the eighth floor of New Hanover Regional Medical Center for their excellent service, especially Latisha who sang a beautiful spiritual song to him as he entered surgery.
