Ulysses Hopson Grainger Jr., 72, served honorably in US Army and Air Force

Ulysses Hopson Grainger Jr., 72, of Longwood, went to be with Jesus on Thursday, Jan. 21, 2016.

He was a member of Longwood Baptist Church. He served honorably in the US Army and Air Force.

He was born Aug. 9, 1943 in Columbus County, the son of the late Ulysses Hopson Grainer Sr. and Linnie Irene Russ Grainger. He was predeceased by his father; sisters, Wanda Fay Grainger Tripp and Mary Etta Grainger Williams; a son, Johnny Michael Light; and a grandson, Ryan Nickolas Grainger.

Surviving is his wife of 45 years, Betty Tyree Grainger; a daughter, Denise Shawn Grainger Somersett (Kevin); brothers, William Dennis (W.D.) Granger (Elisabeth) and John Matthew (J.M.) Grainger (Lisa); a sister, Linnie Jane Grainger Causey (Bobby); three grandchildren, Logan Somersett, Noa Somersett and Michelle Light (finance Michael Adams); and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be conducted at 1 p.m. on Tuesday, Jan. 26 at Brunswick Funeral Service Chapel, with the Rev. Chris Stanley, pastor of Longwood Baptist Church, officiating. Mr. Grainger’s brother-in-law, George Nofsinger, will also speak. Visitation will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. on Monday, Jan. 25 at the funeral home. Burial will be in Ganus Cemetery on Ethridge Road in Longwood.
