Reese Earnhardt Swan, 92, of Southport, passed away on Thursday, Jan. 21, 2016 at Dosher Memorial Hospital.

Mr. Swan was born Aug. 29, 1923 in Brunswick County, the son of the late Charles Norton Swan and Bessie Holden Swan. He was a veteran of the US Navy, having served in WWII.

Mr. Swan spent many years as the caretaker of Bald Head Island. He was preceded in death by his wife, Dolores H. Swan, who passed away in 1998, four brothers and five sisters.

Survivors include his two daughters, Patti-Gail “Plum” Price and husband Dwayne of Bolivia, and Mary Dee “Tiddle” Harrington and husband Roger of Southport; five grandchildren, Tricia Huggins, April Stewart, Rhett Harrington, Jennifer Price and Meredith Hoffman;  great-grandchildren, Henry Samuel, Amelia Gail, Hannah Rebekah, and Rilynn Jane; and many nephews and nieces and special friends.

He was known for his keen wit and engaging stories. He will be greatly missed.

The funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. on Sunday, Jan. 24, 2016 in the Peacock-Newnam and White Funeral Home Chapel. The family will receive friends from 1 to 2 p.m. prior to the service. Burial will follow the service at Northwood Cemetery.
