Harold Lloyd Sledd, 88, of Wilmington, passed away on Tuesday, Jan. 19, 2016 at Lower Cape Fear Hospice and Life Care Center.

He was born on Sept. 10, 1927 in Johnston County and was the son of the late Julian Neal and Lillian Annie (Lee) Sledd.

He was a veteran in the US Army and served his country with honor and distinction during World War II. For many years he was self employed in the automotive industry and owned the Airport Exxon in Raleigh. He enjoyed fishing and was a NASCAR enthusiast.

He was an active member and former deacon at Silver Lake Baptist Church in Carolina Beach.

Harold is survived by his beloved wife of 68 years, Joyce (Mills) Sledd of Wilmington; two daughters, Peggy and husband Mac McCombs of Mooresville and Deborah and Charles Alfred Wallin of Wilmington;  five grandchildren, Chas, Mallory, Walker, Bill and Stewart and five great-grandchildren, Leah, Charlie, Lee, Nathan and Caroline.

A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. on Saturday, Jan. 23 at Silver Lake Baptist Church, 4715 Carolina Beach Road, Wilmington, NC 28412. The family will receive relatives and friends one hour prior at the church from 1 to 2 p.m. Dr. Lynn Bullock is officiating with a eulogy by Pastor Lenier Furr.

The family wants to extend a special thanks to the Lower Cape Fear Hospice Staff and special friends for their loving care.

In lieu of flowers, contributions made to the Lower Cape Fear Hospice and Life Care Center or Silver Lake Baptist Church in memory of Harold would be greatly appreciated.
