Detectives in Brunswick County have arrested Sunset Beach man wanted in South Carolina on attempted murder charges and two women on cocaine charges in separate arrests Thursday.
Michael Tykee Leach, 27, of Ocean Highway West in the Sunset Beach area, was arrested early Thursday morning after detectives executed a search warrant at a family home in the 7400 block of Ocean Highway, according to Brunswick County Sheriff’s Office Spokeswoman Emily Flax.
The investigation was initiated as a result of community tips and complaints, Flax said. Drug agents seized small amounts of cocaine and marijuana from the home.
Leach has been charged with felony possession of cocaine, maintaining a dwelling for a controlled substance, possession of marijuana and possession of drug paraphernalia. He was also served with a fugitive warrant on charges of four counts of attempted murder and possession of a weapon for a violent crime that occurred in Horry County, South Carolina on Jan. 9, Flax said.
Leach was booked at the Brunswick County Detention Facility under a $20,000 secured bond.
Two women face cocaine charges
Following up on additional leads, detectives arrested two women near the intersection of NC 211 and US 17 on Thursday. The arrests are not related to the arrest of Leach, Flax said.
Lauren Megan Lofland, 34, of Azalea Circle in Sunset Beach, and Trish Elizabeth Whitley, 37, of Shellpoint Road in Shallotte, were each charged with felony possession of cocaine and possession of drug paraphernalia.
“Both arrests were made…following community complaints of drug activity in the area,” Flax said.
Lofland was booked at the Brunswick County jail under a $5,500 bond. Whitley was booked and then released on a $10,000 bond.
