Patricia Ellen O’Connell, 69, of Wilmington, passed away on Saturday, Jan. 16, 2016, at Lower Cape Fear Hospice Care Center in Wilmington.

She was born in Brooklyn, New York on Dec. 29, 1946, daughter of the late John Joseph O’Connell and Edna Colgan O’Connell.

Ms. O’Connell graduated from St. Peter’s School of Nursing and later received her degree in psychology from UNC-Wilmington. Prior to retirement, she was employed with New Hanover Regional Medical Center and PPD.   She was a member of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church and served as an Eucharistic minister.   She also enjoyed traveling, quilting and volunteering with Thalian Hall.

Surviving are her sons, Peter Williams (Sherry Jones) of Wilmington and Brian Williams and wife, Carrie, of Liberty Township, Ohio; brothers, John O’Connell and wife, Jill O’Connell, and David O’Connell and wife, Joanne O’Connell; and several nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, she was also preceded in death by a special grandmother, Edna O’Connell.

A funeral Mass will be held at 9 a.m. on Wednesday, Jan. 20 at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, with the Rev. John McGee officiating. The family will receive friends at the church from 8 a.m. until the service hour.

In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts may be made to Lower Cape Fear Hospice, 1414 Physicians Drive, Wilmington, NC 28401.
