Marie Hinton Conway, 88, of Oak Island, passed away on Friday, Jan. 15, 2016.

Mrs. Conway was born July 23, 1927, the daughter of the late John Lee Hinton and Lessie Morgan Hinton. She was a member of First Baptist Church of Oak Island and had formerly been a member of Newmarket Baptist Church in Hampton, Virginia. Mrs. Conway had worked for many years in retail and retired from the shipyard in Newport News. She was preceded in death by her husband, William M. “Google” Conway; a son, Russell Conway; an infant son; and two brothers.

Survivors include her daughter, Joan Carter and husband, the Rev. Charlie Carter of Oak Island; two grandchildren, Jessica Elias and husband Joey and the Rev. Matthew Carter and wife Anna; six great-grandchildren; a niece, Christy Wilder and husband John; and several other nieces and nephews.

The funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. on Monday, Jan. 18 at First Baptist Church of Oak Island, with the Revs. Charlie Carter and Matthew Carter officiating. The family will have visitation one hour prior to the service at the church. A graveside service will be held at 3 p.m. on Tuesday, January 19 in the Peninsula Memorial Park Cemetery in Newport News, Virginia.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to First Baptist Church of Oak Island, 4608 East Oak Island Drive, Oak Island, NC 28465.
