Arnold Ray Potter, 91, World War II vet who was an optician for more than 60 years

Arnold Ray Potter, 91, of Wilmington, entered the gates of Heaven on Friday, Jan. 15, 2016 to meet his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.

He served in the US Navy during World War II and was an optician for over 60 years. He was a faithful member of Sunset Park Baptist Church, where he served in many leadership positions for many years. Ray, “Tebo,” as he was known to many, was a devoted son, husband, father, brother and grandfather. Ray will be remembered for his love of God, family and service to others, including his country.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Sara Bullock Potter; a son, Ray Potter, Jr.; and brothers, Burton Potter and Charles Ray Potter.

Arnold Ray is survived by his son, Ken Potter and wife Heidi of Wilmington; daughter, Debbie Marlowe and husband Joey of Wilmington; grandchildren, Sarah (Anthony)Dibernardo, Mike (Chandra) Potter, David Potter, Clare (Ryan) Karasek, Casey Marlowe, Tyler Marlowe, Natasha Carty and Zachary Adair; three great grandchildren, Haylie, Julianna and Enzo; brothers, George (Shirley) Potter and Larry (Sue) Potter; and two sisters, Iscelene Fales and Marie (Dan) Inman.

Funeral services will be held 11 a.m. on Monday, Jan. 18 at Wilmington Funeral Chapel. Burial will follow in Greenlawn Memorial Park, with military honors provided by American Legion Post 10 Honor Guard.

To honor Arnold, memorial donations may be made to The NC Boy and Girls Home of Lake Waccamaw, 400 Flemington Drive, Lake Waccamaw, NC 28450.
