Wilmington police are investigating an attempted robbery of a taxi driver and a robbery of a man on Randall Parkway.

The victim of the attempted armed robbery — a 72-year-old taxi driver — reported that two teens tried to rob him in a hotel parking lot in the 2300 block of South 17th Street at about 5:13 p.m. Thursday, according to Wilmington Police Department Spokeswoman Cathryn Lindsay.

The victim reported that he picked up the teens at Empie Park on Park Avenue in Wilmington, Lindsay said. The taxi driver drove the suspects to the local inn, when one of the suspects put something to the back of his head and demanded money.

The victim continued to drive through the parking lot and did not stop the vehicle, Lindsay said. The suspects then opened a window, jumped out of the vehicle and ran toward Cameron Court. The suspects did not take any money from the taxi driver. The investigation is ongoing.
