Norman Ellen Stolpa, die-hard Buckeye fan who made beautiful cakes

Norma Ellen (Bridges) Stolpa of Hampstead went to be with the Lord on Sunday, Jan. 3, 2016.

Born Norma Bridges in Laurel, Mississippi on Jan. 10, 1931, she grew up in Columbus, Ohio and graduated from South High School. She married Joseph Stolpa on Aug. 27, 1949. They were blessed with five wonderful children.

In 1986, Norma and Joe moved from Columbus, Ohio and retired to Hampstead. Norma was a passionate golfer, playing with the Topsail Greens ladies league. She baked and decorated the most beautiful cakes. She was also a die-hard Ohio State Buckeye fan.

Norma is preceded in death by her parents, Edward and Edith Bridges; and sisters Betty, June and Mary Louise. She is survived by husband, Joseph; three daughters, Kristina, Emilie and Michelle; two sons, Joseph and Kurt; brother David; sister-in-law Sharen; six grandchildren, Eric, Jessica, Allison, Grant, Konrad and Kira; and five great-grandchildren, Sebastian, Sierra, Stella, Penelope and Reese.

Norma’s family sends humble and heartfelt gratitude to the caregivers at New Hanover Regional Medical Center, and especially Lower Cape Fear Hospice Center, who helped make her passing comfortable and peaceful. Now Norma will be playing golf in paradise–fore!

A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. on Thursday, Jan. 7 at Andrews Mortuary in Hampstead, followed by a reception at Belvedere Clubhouse.
