Drugs and weapons were recovered from a car  following a vehicle chase with law enforcement that ended in a wreck off Carolina Beach Road on Wednesday.

The wreck happened in the area of Carolina Beach Road and Southern Boulevard around 2 p.m., according to the Wilmington Police Department’s Twitter feed. Traffic was delayed Wednesday for several hours.

N.C. State Highway Patrol 1st Sgt. Troy Pope said a green 4-door sedan was attempting to elude law enforcement while traveling north on Carolina Beach Road. The suspect vehicle traveled left across the center lane and then struck a Ford van coming out of the parking lot of Advance Auto Parts at 2318 Carolina Beach Road. The suspect’s vehicle then rolled over and came to rest in the parking lot, Pope said.

Multiple armed suspects were found in the car, along with drugs and ammunition, which detectives recovered from the vehicle. All suspects were apprehended.

Pope said speed was a factor in the wreck. All involved, including an unknown number of people in the van that was hit, were transported to New Hanover Regional Medical Center for treatment. The status of their injuries are not known at this time, Pope said.

The incident is under a joint investigation between the state highway patrol and Wilmington Police Department.
