UPDATE: Police identify teen killed in first homicide of 2016

A Wilmington 14-year-old boy has been identified as the victim in a fatal shooting near the Creekwood community on Sunday.

Aljhean Thomas Williams, 14, died after shots were fired in the 1100 block of Emory Street just after 6:30 p.m. Sunday, according to Wilmington Police Department Spokeswoman Cathryn Lindsay.

Police responded when ShotSpotter activation reported gunfire at the intersection of Emory Street and Stewart Circle. Williams was found lying in the roadway at the intersection, police spokeswoman Linda Rawley said. Officers performed CPR on the victim but EMS pronounced him dead at the scene.

The homicide investigation is ongoing, Lindsay said.
