Janice ‘Jan’ Berkeley, 80, faithful Sunday school teacher

Janice “Jan” Berkeley, 80, of Wilmington, went home to be with the Lord on Wednesday, Dec. 30, 2015, at New Hanover Regional Medical Center.

Jan was born Nov. 8, 1935 in Fleming, Kentucky, daughter of the late James W. Fleming and Aline Phipps Fleming.

Jan was well-known for her passion of cooking, especially for her family and friends as well as a faithful Sunday school teacher for over 30 years.

Jan is survived by her husband of 60 years, Bob Berkeley; two sons, Bob (Deb) Berkeley of Mt. Vernon, Ohio, and Chris Berkeley of Plymouth, Minnesota; four grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; two brothers-in-law; and two cousins. Her son, Terry Berkeley, and her brother, Jim Fleming, preceded her in death.

A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, Jan. 5 at Pine Valley Baptist Church, with the Rev. Melvin Hall and the Rev. Ray Frazier officiating. Prior to the service at the church, the family will receive friends from 10 a.m. until the service hour.

In lieu of flowers, contributions in Jan’s memory may be made to Pine Valley Baptist Church, 3940 Shipyard Blvd., Wilmington, NC 28403.
