Government offices closed New Year’s Day

City of Wilmington offices will be closed Friday, Jan. 1 in observance of New Year’s Day.

City trash will not be picked up on Friday.  City trash customers who normally have their trash and yard waste picked up on Fridays are asked to have all items curbside Wednesday, Dec. 30. City recycling customers who are on the GREEN schedule and normally have their recycling collected on Fridays should place their recycling containers curbside by 7:30 a.m. Wednesday, Dec. 30.

The city is still collecting holiday debris and Christmas trees. A list of recyclable items and the new 2016 recycling calendar is available on the city’s website.

Wilmington City Council will host their first meeting of 2016 at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 5, in the council chambers at Wilmington City Hall located at 102 North Third St.

New Hanover County

County offices will be closed Friday, Jan. 1, in observance of New Year’s Day. The New Hanover County landfill also will be closed Friday. All New Hanover County branch libraries will be closed on New Year’s Day. For more information about library locations and hours visit the New Hanover County Library website.

New Hanover County Commissioners will have their agenda review meeting at 4 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 30. Commissioners will have their first meeting of 2016 at 4 p.m. Monday, Jan. 4 at the New Hanover County Historic Courthouse located at 24 North Third St.

Airlie Gardens, 300 Airlie Road in Wilmington, will be closed Friday, Jan. 1. For more information about Airlie Gardens visit the gardens’ website or call 910-798-7700. Kure Beach, Carolina Beach and Wrightsville Beach town halls all will be closed Friday, Jan. 1.

Brunswick County

Brunswick County government offices will be closed Friday, Jan. 1, in observance of New Year’s Day. Trash and recycling home pickup will operate on a normal schedule New Year’s Day. The Solid Waste Office will be closed Friday. The county landfill, convenient centers and curbside garbage and recycling collection will be operating a regular schedule.
