Reed Brady Smith, 70, of Wilmington passed peacefully from his earthly life on Sunday, December 20, 2015 at Lower Cape Fear Hospice with family by his bedside.
He was born December 24, 1944 in Wilmington, the son of Reed and Leola Gore Smith. Also remembered is Reed’s niece, Carol Ann Smith, who preceded him in death.
Reed is survived by his cherished wife of 45 years, Ellen Barnhill Smith; daughter, Holly L. Bowden (Tracy Houston); son, Darren Brady Smith (Melissa); grandchildren, Elizabeth Johnson, Ashleigh Bowden, Caleb Smith and Oliver Smith; brother, Steve Smith (Catherine); and many extended family and friends.
Reed was an industrious man and had two careers, instrumentation mechanic at DuPont and most recently his upholstery business. He also served six years in the NC National Guard. He was a faithful member of Wrightsboro Baptist Church.
Reed loved his family and was wonderful husband, daddy, Papa, brother and friend. He was an avid hunter and fisherman who enjoyed nothing better than a day with God’s nature on the water or in the woods. His radiant smile and great sense of humor could and did charm all who crossed his path. Reed blessed the lives of many and leaves to us a legacy of strong faith, generous love and great courage.
The family will receive friends at 11 a.m. Tuesday, December 22, 2015 at Wrightsboro Baptist Church with service beginning at noon. The Rev. Dr. Brad Harrison and The Rev. Mike Lewis will conduct the service. Burial will follow at Black River Presbyterian Church Cemetery, 65 Eddie Jones Road, Ivanhoe, NC 28447.
The family would like to thank you for all acts of kindness bestowed upon us during Reed’s lengthy illness. May the Lord continue to bless you as He has us, Reed’s family.
