Ethel Louella Edwards Benton, 100, of Leland, passed away peacefully Sunday, Dec. 13, 2015.

Mrs. Benton was the daughter of the late Jesse Edwards and Frances Browning Edwards. She also was preceded in death by her husband, Rockfellow Benton, and a son, Dowe Benton.

Mrs. Benton was the oldest living member of Elah Baptist Church and retired from the Brunswick County Schools as a cafeteria worker.

Survivors include a son, Bernard Benton and Linda of Whiteville; two daughters, Betty Lanier and husband Jimmy of Leland and Linda Lanier and husband Spencer of Winnabow and a daughter in law, Nan Benton; seven grandchildren, Brian Benton and wife Julie, Brad Benton and wife Kelli, Marty Lanier and wife Cyndi, Mike Lanier and wife Lisa, Mitch Lanier and wife Amber, Jimmy Lanier, Jr. and wife Hannah and Cory Benton and wife Beth; and 15 great grandchildren, Andrew, Aaron, Mary, Jarrett, Lindsay, Jonathon, Amanda, Parker, Pasty, Fletcher, Sara, Gracie, Will, Kara and Ava.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. on Wednesday, Dec. 16 at Elah Baptist Church. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service in the church fellowship hall. Burial will be in King Memorial Garden. Pallbearers will be Jerry Ulmer, Joe Best, John Cook, Robert Mintz, Wade Long and Carter Rabon. Honorary pallbearer will be Houston Williams.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made the Lower Cape Fear Hospice Foundation, 1414 Physicians Drive, Wilmington, NC 28401, or Elah Baptist Church, 1527 Old Fayetteville Road, Leland, NC 28451.
