A Brunswick County man has been arrested on multiple sex offense charges that involve two children.

Michael Charles Jacobs, 34, of Sea Shore Road in Supply, was arrested early Tuesday morning by detectives with the Brunswick County Sheriff’s Office, according to sheriff’s office spokeswoman Emily Flax.

Jacobs is charged with sexually assaulting two girls, ages 8 and 14, between May 2013 and December 2015. The victims were known to Jacobs, Flax said.

Jacobs has been charged with 20 counts of indecent liberties with a child, 10 counts of first-degree sexual offense and 10 counts of second-degree sex offense. He was booked at the Brunswick County Jail under a $1 million secured bond.


A locally owned restaurant in downtown Wilmington recently reported cash and liquor was stolen from the business overnight.

A breaking and entering report came in at 10:39 a.m. Tuesday at Beer Barrio located at 34 N. Front St., according to Wilmington Police Department Spokeswoman Cathryn Lindsay.

The business reported liquor, three cash register boxes and a drill were taken from the restaurant. The breaking and entering reportedly occurred sometime around 2:30 a.m. Tuesday, Lindsay said.

Police are investigating and are working to gain suspect information, Lindsay said.

The business was established by husband-and wife-team Hayley Jensen and Stephen Durley, who opened the doors of their restaurant in June. A robbery relief fund has been set up for Beer Barrio on a GoFundMe page. The message on the page states the business is trying to recoup losses and purchase other means of security.

Man faces multiple gun, firearms charges

Detectives with the Wilmington Police Department arrested a man on several drug charges after responding to a call Monday afternoon.

A caller reported that several men, one with a handgun, were smoking illegal drugs and arguing in the area of the 1200 block of Fox Glove Court at about 4:21 p.m., according to Lindsay. Police found the armed suspect that matched the caller’s description as he was walking away from the area.

When searching the suspect, police reportedly found a handgun and drugs, Lindsay said. Police arrested 34-year-old Albert Wayne Dumas and charged him with several felonies.

According to jail records, Dumas has been charged with possession of a stolen firearm, carrying a concealed weapon, possession of a firearm by a felon, possession of cocaine, three counts of possession of a schedule II controlled substance, two counts of possession of a schedule VI controlled substance and resist, delay or obstruct a public officer. He was booked at the New Hanover County Jail under a $100,000 secured bond.

Man arrested after vehicle overturns near Isabel Holmes Bridge

Wilmington police arrested a man on firearm charges after a wreck near the Isabel Holmes Bridge early Tuesday morning.

Police responded to a report of a vehicle that had flipped on the ramp coming from the bridge onto Martin Luther King Jr. Parkway, Lindsay said. The vehicle overturned, but the suspect was able to crawl out of the vehicle to safety.

Responding officers found what they suspected to be a gun inside the vehicle, Lindsay said. Police searched the suspect and reportedly found a stolen handgun on his ankle. The gun was reported stolen out of New Hanover County.

The driver of the vehicle – 26-year-old Grant Everett Robbins – was arrested and taken into custody, Lindsay said. He was charged with multiple charges, including driving while license revoked, possession of a firearm by a felon, and possession of a stolen firearm.

Robbins was booked at the New Hanover County Jail and posted a $30,000 bond.
