Ralph Clinton Whitley left this earthly world peacefully surrounded by his loved ones on Tuesday, Dec. 8, 2015.
He lived an amazing journey and built a lasting legacy through his love, philanthropy and youthful spirit. Remembered as a man of impeccable character, he dedicated his life as a devoted family man and always gave to his community and loved ones.
He was born Feb. 22, 1936 in Stanly County, the son of the late Elton D. Whitley and Pauline Perry Whitley. He was proceeded in death by his brother, Reggie Whitley.
Ralph was cherished as Dad to Robin W. Guy and Whit Whitley (Marie). He was known as Paw-Paw to his grandchildren, Julie Ann Guy, Jana Guy (Mohcine), Hylee Whitley and Tosh Whitley; and great-granddaughter Leena. Many others in the community shared in this affection as adopted family members to this wonderful man.
He proudly served his community all of his life as a humanitarian and civic leader. He moved to Carolina Beach to provide a nice life for his family. Ralph served the Carolina Beach community alongside his wife, Doris Whitley for many decades building community through medical rescue, environmental, education and parks and recreation. We continue to benefit from his work today.
If you were ever in his presence, you know Ralph had a special way of making a situation lighter. You left with your heart a little happier and your head held a little higher.
Ralph Clinton Whitley is missed greatly by all who loved him but his spirit will live on forever.
To honor Ralph C. Whitley, a visitation will be held from 1 to 2 p.m. on Saturday, Dec. 12 at Andrews Valley Chapel, 1408 S. College Road, Wilmington, NC 28412, followed by a memorial service at 2 p.m.
