Elizabeth Jane Ridaught Raney, 89, ‘loved her family and many pets’

Elizabeth “Betty” Jane Ridaught Raney, 89, of Wilmington, went to be with her Lord on Tuesday, Dec. 8, 2015.

Betty was born Dec. 23, 1925 in Wilmington, daughter of the late Maurice Ridaught and Gladys Burry Ridaught. Her husband, James Wesley Raney, son, James Raney, Jr., and a granddaughter, Margaret Elizabeth Harvey, preceded her in death.

A former member of Lake Forest Baptist Church, but more recently an active member of Carolina Beach Presbyterian Church, Betty loved her family and many pets, and enjoyed cooking, sewing and shopping. She had retired from an accounting firm after many years of service.

She is survived by her three daughters, Becky Tucker (Hiram) and Susan Harris, all of Wilmington, and Jane Harvey of New Bern; eight grandchildren, Carrie Philip (Scott), Kate Wallin, Sandie Godbey, Sybil Tucker, Jill Harris and Wesley Harris, all of Wilmington, and Emily Harvey and John Harvey, both of New Bern; seven great-grandchildren, Scottie and Caitlin Philip, Leah and Charlie Wallin, Lily and Raney Godbey and Matix Johnson; sister, Margaret “Peggy” Russell of Wilmington; two nieces, Karen Wilmoth and Rosemary Minton; and two nephews, Mark and Matt Russell.

A graveside funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 12 at Greenlawn Memorial Park, with the Rev. Jim Johns officiating.

Memorials in Betty’s name may be made to New Hanover County Humane Society, 2405 N. 23rd St., Wilmington, NC 28401.
