New Hanover Regional Medical Center is seeking volunteers to work in the hospital’s gift shops.

The hospital has three gifts shops in the main hospital, the Betty H. Cameron Women’s and Children’s Hospital and the Orthopedic hospital, all located at the main complex at 2131 S. 17th St., according to New Hanover Regional Medical Center (NHRMC) Spokeswoman Claire Parker. Those who volunteer at the gift shops help shoppers with purchases and create a welcoming environment.

Run by the NHRMC Auxiliary, the gift shops help raise funds for special programs for patients and visitors. Last month, the NHRMC Auxiliary donated $5,000 to the NHRMC Foundation toward the purchase a 3dMD imaging system to enhance the treatment of cleft lip and palate patients.

The NHRMC Auxiliary has also donated funds to purchase a portable labyrinth for the NHRMC Behavioral Health Hospital, along with $1,000 to the Sea Trail Grandmas and $500 to Project Linus, which are outside volunteer groups who sew, knit or crochet blankets and clothing for hospitalized children.

To volunteer at a hospital gift shop visit the NHRMC volunteer website, and click on “Volunteering at NHRMC” for application and orientation information.  Once these are complete, applicants can expect a coordinator to call for an appointment.
