Robert Yost Mundy Jr., 86, US Army veteran and devoted sports fan

Robert Yost Mundy, Jr., 86, of Hampstead, passed away Wednesday, Nov. 18, 2015 at New Hanover Regional Medical Center.

Born July 19, 1929 in Tazewell, Virginia, he was the son of the late Robert Yost Mundy, Sr. and Mildred Beaver Mundy. Mr. Mundy was a veteran of the Korean Conflict, serving in the U.S. Army.

His family was the most important element of his life. He was a devoted husband to his wife, Kazue (Terry) before her passing in 2006 after 58 years of marriage.

He was a very knowledgeable fan of all sports; NASCAR, basketball, college sports and women’s golf were his favorites.

He is survived by his daughter, Margie Bestul (Lynn) of Hampstead; son, Robert Yost Mundy, III (Gina) of Atlanta, Georgia; four grandchildren, Travis, Dustin, Kasey and Jennifer; 18 great grandchildren; brother, Charlie Mundy (Lillian) of Winston Salem; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Services will be at the convenience of the family.

Memorial donations may be made in Robert’s name to Lower Cape Fear Hospice, 1406 Physicians Drive, Wilmington, NC 28401.
