James Blaine (“JB”) Johnson, 87, of Charlotte and formerly of Leland, passed away on Wednesday morning, Nov. 18, 2015.
JB was born in Virginia to the late Monroe and Della Johnson. On Dec. 22, 1951, JB married the late Patricia Ann, the absolute love of his life. The two built a life together and moved from Baltimore, Maryland to Wilmington in 1973 with their three children.
Having worked in construction with each of his four brothers, JB created his own construction company from the ground-up when they arrived in Wilmington. The JB Johnson Construction Company built countless residential homes and commercial buildings and conducted renovations in the Wilmington area.
In both Baltimore and Wilmington, JB was actively involved in his church congregations. He served as a deacon, Sunday school teacher, youth leader and in prayer ministries. Even beyond his church commitments, he was a constant example of Christ’s love and a witness to everyone he met.
JB, however, leaves behind more than his beautiful handiwork and witness. He is survived by his children, Pamela Sue Johnson of Lebanon, Tennessee, Cynthia Lee Nurnberger (Bill) of Hixson, Tennessee, and Douglas Blaine Johnson (Meg) of Charlotte; grandchildren, Will and Jenilee Nurnberger, and Alecia, Lainey and Blaine Johnson; also a brother, Monroe Johnson, Jr. (Nan) of Baltimore, MD.
In addition to his wife and parents, he was preceded in death by three brothers, Cecil, Billy Lee and Carson Johnson.
The hymn “For All the Saints” reads, “Soon, soon to faithful warriors comes their rest; sweet is the calm of paradise the blessed.” JB tirelessly lived the life of love that only a faithful warrior would know. The man was known for his heart and his smile. He loved his wife, children, grandchildren, friends and family with his whole heart and is now enjoying the calm of paradise with his precious wife and beloved brothers.
Family and friends are invited to celebrate the life of JB on Saturday, Nov. 21, 2015 at Andrews Mortuary, 1617 Market St., Wilmington, NC 28401. Arrangements include visitation from 1 to 2 p.m., followed by the funeral at 2. A graveside service will follow at Oleander Memorial Gardens, 306 Bradley Drive, Wilmington, NC 28409.
Memorial donations may be made to Beach Road Baptist Church, 4457 Flagship Ave SE, Southport, NC 28461, or Hawthorne Lane United Methodist Church’s Walter J. Miller Class, 501 Hawthorne Lane, Charlotte, NC 28204.
