Police search for man who attempted daytime sexual assault in back of salon

A man is wanted in connection with an attempted sexual assault in the back of a salon off Eastwood Road in Wilmington.

Police are searching for 46-year-old John Cornelius Stanton, who has arrest warrants out on charges of attempted second-degree rape and kidnapping, according to Wilmington Police Department Spokeswoman Linda Rawley.

The incident occurred at the salon located in the 400 block of Eastwood Road just after 4 p.m. Monday. One of the attendants at the salon was lured to the back of the business. The suspect reportedly attempted to sexually assault the victim, but she escaped the assault with minor injuries, Rawley said.

The suspect ran out of the building and was last seen leaving the parking lot area in a green Honda CRV. Stanton is described as a white male who is 5 feet 9 inches tall and weighs about 160 pounds.

Detectives with the New Hanover County Sheriff’s Office are investigating the armed robbery of a Chinese food delivery driver Monday night.

The driver tried to make a delivery at a home in the 4600 block of Norwich Drive  in the Kings Grant area just before 8 p.m. Monday, according to New Hanover County Sheriff’s Office Spokesman Lt. Jerry Brewer. But when the homeowner told the driver she didn’t place the order, the driver returned to his car and was robbed at gunpoint.

The suspect stole cash and a cell phone from the driver, then ran in the direction of Brampton Road, Brewer said. The suspect is described as a black man who is 5 feet 8 inches tall, who wore all black clothing with a bandanna tied around his face.
