The driver of a car that hit a man in a wheelchair Friday night will not be charged in the fatal wreck.

Voit Rayfield Donaldson, 50, of Wilmington, was killed when he was struck by a Ford Fusion the 2300 block of Carolina Beach Road just before 7 p.m. Friday, according to Wilmington Police Department Spokeswoman Linda Rawley.

The man was attempting to cross Carolina Beach Road in his motorized wheelchair when he was hit by the car, Rawley said. Investigators say the man did not cross the road in the cross walk.

The driver of the Ford reported to police that she didn’t see the man until it was too late, Rawley said. No charges will be filed in the wreck.
