Detectives with the Wilmington Police Department are investigating a shooting that sent one man to the hospital for surgery Thursday evening.

The victim was reportedly sitting on a motorcycle in the 400 block of 10th Street when at about 5:30 p.m., a gray vehicle with an unknown number of occupants fired at the victim, according to police spokeswoman Cathryn Lindsay. The victim was hit at least once by the gunfire.

The victim, a 36-year-old man, ran into Portia Mills Hines Park where he collapsed, Lindsay said. EMS arrived on scene and took the victim to New Hanover Regional Medical Center where he underwent surgery. His condition is unknown at this time, Lindsay said.

The police department could not immediately provide suspect information. The investigation is ongoing, Lindsay said.
