Kirk Lawrence Palmer, 65, played bass guitar 40 years with several bands

Kirk Lawrence Palmer died on Wednesday, Nov. 11, 2015, at New Hanover Regional Medical Center. He was 65.

Born on April 14, 1950, in Sioux City, Iowa, Mr.Palmer was a musician. He played the bass guitar in the Wilmington area and for the past 40 years, he played with several bands. The last two bands he played with were Quilted Sky and Ten Foot Thick, both of Wilmington. He loved playing and listening to all types of music.

He is survived by his longtime girlfriend of more than 20 years, Mary Barber, of Wilmington; daughters, Katherine “Katy” Palmer, of Wilmington, Holly Dunn, of Sioux City, Iowa and Sarah Lindholm, of Madison, South Dakota; and sons, Derek Bowden and Jeff Bowen, both of Burlington, Iowa. Also surviving are 12 grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

Mr. Palmer was preceded in death by his parents and one sister, Donna Palmer.

A charity benefit will be held in his memory at a later date .
