Mary Virginia Venters Lundquist, 84, ‘excellent storyteller’ known for her cooking skills

Mary Virginia Venters Lundquist, of Leland, died Friday, Nov. 6, 2015, at her home. She was 84.

Mrs. Lundquist was born in New Hanover County. She was the daughter of the late Mark Delnar Venters and Mary Belle Brinkley Venters. Together with her parents, she was preceded in death by two sons, Roger Alan Lundquist Jr. and Robert Edward Lundquist and one brother, Robert Troy Venters Sr.

Mrs. Lundquist was known by her family to be a fantastic cook and an excellent storyteller. Some of her hobbies were knitting, quilting and playing cards. She was a member of Wesley United Methodist Church in Wilmington.

Survivors include two sons, John Karl Lundquist, of Raleigh and Mark Andrew Lundquist, of Leland; one daughter, Mary Katherine Lundquist; one brother, William B. Venters, of New Bern; one sister, Sarah Venters Schoonmaker, of Oak Island; sister-in-law, Wilma Venters; two grandchildren, Angela Marie Lundquist and Mark Andrew Lundquist Jr.; and two great-grandchildren, Carly Marie Lundquist and Brody Kathleen Johnson.

A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, Nov. 12, 2015, at the Wilmington Funeral Chapel. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service
