High school football playoff brackets set

The North Carolina High School Athletic Association football brackets have been set, with six local teams earning playoff berths.

Mideastern Conference champions New Hanover, who were perfect in league play, earned a No. 2 seed in the eastern half of the 4A bracket. They will play No. 15 Knightdale on Friday night.

Hoggard, who had just one conference loss this year, grabbed the No. 6 seed in 4A East and will play at home against No. 11 E. E. Smith.

Laney used two wins at the end of the season to nab the No. 14 seed in the 4AA east bracket. They will play at No. 3 Wake Forest.

In Class 3AA, West Brunswick got the No. 16 seed in the eastern half of the bracket. The Trojans will travel to Fayetteville to play No. 1 Terry Sanford.

The Topsail Pirates also earned a playoff spot, getting the No. 5 seed in 3A East. They will host No. 12 Fike from Wilson.

In the 2A east bracket, North Brunswick got the No. 13 seed. They will travel to No. 4 Clinton for their playoff game.
