Helen Grace Simpson Brown, of Wilmington, died Thursday, Nov. 5, 2015, at the age of 90.
Helen was born in Duplin County on May 18, 1925, daughter of the late Hubert and Leticia Jones Simpson.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Roy David Brown; two brothers, Eldon Simpson and O.J. Simpson; two sisters, Minnie Edwards and Norma Smith; and one grandson, John Christian Simpson.
Surviving are four children, Ricky Simpson (Gloria), of Wilmington, David Brown (June), of Leland, Donna Askew (John), of Lake Waccamaw and Jeff Brown (Frances), of Wilmington; three sisters, Pam (Paul) Shepley, of Wilmington, Jess (Lloyd) Hudson, of Wilmington and Bertha Simpson, of Wallace; eight grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; many nieces and nephews; and very special friends, Gail, David and Matthew Longnecker, of Wilmington.
She was so very proud of all of her family and was very much loved by them.
A very important part of Helen’s life was her belief in Jesus Christ. She lived a very full life as a faithful servant and member at Wrightsville Beach Baptist Church for over 50 years, working in many areas of church life. Some of her dearest friends were from the Encouragers Sunday Class, Dynamic Adults and the adult choir of the church. She was a strong leader in the church’s Prayer Chain Ministry, as well as the Hidden Angels Ministry, where she served along with her dear friend, Gail Longnecker.
The family will receive friends from 5:30 to 7 p.m. Friday, Nov. 6, 2015, at Andrews Valley Chapel, 4108 S. College Road, Wilmington.
A funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 7, 2015, with the Rev. Danny Hawkins officiating at Wrightsville Beach Baptist Church, 601 Causeway Drive,Wrightsville Beach. Burial will follow at Oleander Memorial Gardens, 306 Bradley Drive, Wilmington.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Wrightsville Beach Baptist Church, P.O.Box 21, Wrightsville Beach, NC 28480 or to a charity of your choice.
