Edward David Betts, of Hampstead, died Tuesday, Nov. 3, 2015, at the age of 70.
Coach Betts was a veteran of the U.S. Army, serving in Vietnam with the rank of captain. He graduated with double master’s degrees in business and marketing at Salisbury State University and in education at University of South Florida. He was currently coaching and teaching at Trask High School in Pender County and was loved and respected by his many students and staff.
He is survived by his wife of 22 years, Jean Porter Betts; son, Ian Betts, of Charleston, South Carolina; two daughters, Julia Sofield and Jennifer Germany; three grandchildren, Joshua, Robin and Jacob; one great-grandchild, Chase; and other extended family and friends.
A celebration of life ceremony will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 7, 2015, at Wilmington Funeral Chapel, 1535 S. 41st St., Wilmington, NC 28403.
In lieu of flowers, memorial tributes can be given to the American Heart Association.
