UNCW women’s soccer sets school record, advances to CAA semifinals

Senior forward Maddie McCormick scored two goals and added an assist as third-seeded UNCW advanced to the semifinals of the Colonial Athletic Association Women’s Soccer Championship with a 4-0 victory over sixth-seeded Delaware at UNCW Soccer Stadium on Sunday afternoon.

The Seahawks set a school record by winning their 14th game of the season, improving to 14-5-1 on the season. They will face second-seeded William & Mary in the semifinals on Friday, Nov. 6 at Hofstra Soccer Stadium. MaddieMcCormick

McCormick gave UNCW a quick 1-0 lead in the eighth minute when she scored off a pass from senior forward Katrina Guillou.

Just four minutes into the second half, Guillou upped the advantage to 2-0 when she tallied her 10th goal of the year off assists from McCormick and junior goalkeeper Carolyn Huddy.

After McCormick extended the margin to 3-0 in the 65th minute, senior midfielder Lindsey Berne added an insurance goal with 1:33 remaining for a 4-0 edge.

Led by Huddy, the Seahawks posted a school-record fourth consecutive shutout as UNCW outshot Delaware by a commanding 16-4 margin. Huddy made two saves, while posting her ninth shutout of the season.
