Richard E. Lawson, the executive director of the Children’s Museum of Wilmington for the last eight years, has been named chairman of the board of directors of CarolinaCAN.
CarolinaCAN (The North Carolina Campaign for Achievement Now) is a non-profit organization that seeks to provide higher-quality charter schools across the state. It is part of 50CAN, a national network of organizations that advocates for access to better-quality public education for all students, regardless of their address.
The organization believes that Lawson’s experience with the education system and ties to the local community will help CarolinaCAN connect with the public.
“CarolinaCAN does amazing work for the school system and education in Wilmington,” Lawson said in a news release. “We have been successful in improving teacher pay by lobbying the legislature, and hope to continue moving forward with the support of CarolinaCAN.”
