The Seahawks (18-5, 9-2 CAA) moved to within 1.5 matches in the CAA standings with the road win. The Dukes (21-4, 11-1 CAA), meanwhile, suffered their first conference loss of the season and just their second at home on the season.

UNCW also clinched a spot in the CAA championship tournament for the third straight season.

“I’m so proud of our defensive effort against a tough James Madison team,” said UNCW Head Coach Amy Bambenek.

Joining Lott in double digit kills was freshman Katie McCullough with 10. Junior Kristen Powell and senior Meredith Peacock both chipped in six kills.

Freshman Anna Moss and junior Bella Borgiotti led the Seahawks at the net with seven and six blocks, respectively.

“Bella (Borgiotti) had a huge night blocking for her position, and overall our setting decisions were on point to help us side out efficiently. Our team is truly invested in reaching our goals and their determination really shined in tonight’s win.”

The Seahawks visit Towson on Nov. 1 for a 1 p.m. start. The Tigers stayed in third place with a sweep of visiting Charleston on Friday.
