Detectives with the New Hanover County Sheriff’s Office have arrested a man and woman who are now charged with an armed robbery and shooting that injured a 68-year-old man.
Stephanie Armstrong, 45, and George Kirby, III, 50, were arrested Monday in connection with a robbery and shooting at a home in the 4700 block of Ilex Drive in the Silver Lake area of New Hanover County on Oct. 5, according to sheriff’s office spokesman Lt. Jerry Brewer.
Armstrong and Kirby faces charges of assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill or inflict serious injury, robbery with a dangerous weapon and first-degree burglary in the case, Brewer said.
The 68-year-old victim was at his home when he heard a knock at his door at about 8 p.m. Oct. 5, Brewer said. When he answered the door, one of two suspects shot through the door, and the bullet grazed his face.
The suspects – described as a white woman and a black man – entered the home and tied up the victim with a phone cord. The suspects took the victim’s wallet and ran from the home, Brewer said. Neighbors reported that a grey Toyota Camry parked next to the home left shortly after shots were fired.
Kirby was booked at the New Hanover County Jail under a $250,000 secured bond, according to jail records.
Armstrong faces additional charges of identity theft and failure to appear to appear in court on a felony. According to the N.C. Department of Corrections, Armstrong has been convicted of more than 60 felony charge including breaking and entering into vehicles, forgery and uttering forged papers. She was booked at the New Hanover County jail under a $315,000 secured bond.
