Senior forward Josue Henriquez scored on a breakaway just 30 seconds into the second half as No. 14 Old Dominion held off UNCW to earn a 1-0 victory in a non-conference game at UNCW Soccer Stadium on Wednesday night.

The win elevated the Monarchs’ record to 8-2-1, while UNCW stands at 8-4-2 on the season.

Henriquez tallied his team-leading fifth goal of the year when the senior took a through pass from senior midfielder Ryan Condotta and sent a low strike past junior goalkeeper Sean Melvin.

The Seahawks outshot the Monarchs by a 7-5 margin and had an 8-5 advantage in corner kicks.

UNCW faced its fourth nationally ranked opponent of the season and has now faced a ranked foe in three of its last five matches.

Six of the Seahawks’ last seven games have been decided by one goal or less, including the last three contests.

With four matches to play in the regular season, UNCW has already clinched a spot in the six-team CAA Tournament and look to improve their seed in conference as the Seahawks travel to Delaware on Sunday, Oct. 25.
