Mideastern Conference Tournament

No. 1 Hoggard (12-0, 13-2) plays Laney at home on Tuesday.

No. 5 Laney 3   No. 4 West Brunswick 2

(23-25, 26-24, 15-25, 25-23, 15-13)

Laney battled to a decisive fifth set on Monday night as the Bucs defeated West Brunswick 15-13 in the final game to grab a 3-2 road win.

Sarah Jonkheer led all hitters with eight kills, while Abbie Paswaters played a key role in the passing game with 13 assists.  Haliegh Somberg also recorded 15 digs.

After splitting the home-at-home series  during the regular season, Laney moves onto the semifinals of the conference tournament and face top-seeded Hoggard (12-0, 13-2) on Tuesday.

The Trojan gets back on the floor this weekend in the 3A playoffs at 9-10 overall.

No. 3 New Hanover 3   No. 6 South Brunswick 0

(25-14, 25-21, 25-14)

The Wildcats continue to make improvements this season and grabbed a straight set 3-0 sweep over South Brunswick to advance in the conference tournament.

Autumn James and Julia Rhine led New Hanover with six kills apiece, while Courtney Loughran played a key role in the passing game to record 14 assists. Olivia Backston led the defense with 24 digs as the Wildcats travel to Hampstead for a date with Topsail in the semifinals on Tuesday.

New Hanover moved to 7-6 in league play and 13-6 overall. The Wildcats and Pirates split the regular season series.

No. 2 Topsail 3     No. 7 Ashley 2

(25-18, 25-12, 19-25, 14-25, 15-9)

 Topsail outlasted Ashley 3-2 on Monday night to avenge a late season setback to the Screaming Eagles as the Pirates advanced to Mideastern Conference Tournament semifinals.

After jumping out to a two set advantage, Ashley stormed back to tie the match before Topsail grabbed a 15-9 win in the fifth set. Payton Shoenleber had 13 points, 29 assists and 15 digs, while Angelia Biele and Madi Ford swung a heavy hand with seven kills apiece. Marlee Marrotta finished with 20 points and 34 digs in the result.

The Screaming Eagles close the year at 4-9 in conference and 10-9 overall. Topsail improved to 8-5 in league play and 14-8 overall. The Pirates have a two-seed in the bracket and host New Hanover in the tournament semifinals on Tuesday.

The Wildcats blanked Topsail 5-0 on Monday night as Jack Kirenan and Juan Rosales tallied score in the result. Jared Jones and Robert Franck each had an assist, while Roman Lewis made on save. New Hanover improved to 13-7-1 overall and remain 5-4 in conference.
