People and pooches alike stepped out in beautiful weather on Saturday to enjoy the 7th Annual Salty Paws Festival at Carolina Beach Lake Park.

Tents with vendors selling a variety of things from pet accessories to food and beverages and even a “Kiss-the-Bull” booth lined the pathways along the lake, giving both two-legged and four-legged visitors plenty to look at.

Several animal rescue groups from New Hanover and Brunswick Counties were represented, showcasing not just dogs and cats but also reptiles and bunnies. There was even a parrot named Charlie, who stood on a perch on a table displaying the abstract artwork he creates with his beak and a paintbrush.

On the main stage, there was a pet costume contest (won by a Chihuahua selling tacos at a taco stand), a demonstration by the New Hanover County Sheriff’s Department K9 Unit and live music for spectators to enjoy.

Proceeds from the event will benefit local animal rescues.
