Etta Kerr Rivenbark, of Castle Hayne, died Wednesday, Oct. 14, 2015, at the age of 78.

She was the youngest daughter of nine children of the late Blanche Burbank Oldham Kerr and Clarence Merton Kerr Sr. She was born on June 27, 1937. Etta graduated from New Hanover High School in 1956. She was very active in the local 4H Club. In 1955, she won an NC 4H Championship. In 1956, she was the national winner for her canine achievements. She was also an active member of Wrightsboro Home Demonstration Club and the Wrightsboro Volunteer Fire Department Auxiliary.

Etta was an active member of Bethany Presbyterian Church for over 65 years. She was a faithful member of Bethany’s Women of the Church and the Morning Circle Bible Study group. Her cooking skills and achievements were legendary. She will be best remembered for her lemon pies and her sweet disposition.

Married on July 21, 1957, she is survived by her husband, William “Billy” C. Rivenbark Jr.; daughter, Cynthia “Cindy” R. Coleman (John); sons, William A. Rivenbark and Frank A. Rivenbark (Kimberly), all of Castle Hayne; grandchildren, Kathryn C. Howard (Chris), of Raleigh, Sarah Coleman, of Folly Beach, South Carolina and Brandon A. Rivenbark (Katie), of Castle Hayne; great-granddaughter, Ariana Howard, of Raleigh; adopted granddaughter, Victoria Lane, of Castle Hayne; a special cousin, Amy R. Musselwhite, of Castle Hayne; brother, John E. Kerr, of Melbourne, Florida; sisters, Mary K. Manning and Dorothy K. Richard, both of Wilmington; sisters-in-law, Elizabeth B. Kerr, of Castle Hayne, Margaret H. Kerr, of DeLand, Florida and Doris H. Kerr, of Birmingham, Alabama; and her husband’s family: sisters, Betty R. Swart (Bobby), of Wilmington and Barbara Rivenbark, of Castle Hayne and brother, Charles Rivenbark (Ann), of Stockbridge, Georgia.

Etta was preceded in death by her brothers, Graham, Robert, Harold and Clarence Kerr; sister, Rose K. Bordeaux; and in-laws, Dorothy N. Kerr, Inez D. Kerr, Rudy Manning, Ed Richard and Ralph Bordeaux.

Visitation will begin at 10 a.m., followed by funeral services at 11 a.m., on Saturday, Oct. 17, 2015, at Wrightsboro Baptist Church, 2736 Castle Hayne Road, Wilmington, NC 28401. The burial service will take place at Bethany Presbyterian Church.
