Daniel “Dan” Charles Maheu died peacefully on Oct. 12, 2015, in Wilmington, after a courageous battle with cancer.

Dan was born in New Hampshire to Lionel and Teresa Dube Maheu and moved to Florida at the age of 11. He was an accomplished musician who played in South Florida clubs at the age of 15, which required signed permission from his father because he was underage.

Dan will be remembered for his sense of humor and his devotion to family and friends. Because of his peaceful spirit, he was called a “dove” by his mother and nicknamed “the Bing Crosby of Rock and Roll” by early band mates. He was happiest playing music and being near the ocean.

Dan is survived by many loving friends and family members, including his wife, Katherine Arnott-Maheu; children, Selytia Maheu and Bridgette Maheu, of Maine; stepchildren, Joshua Arnott (Jen) and Seth Arnott (Gina), of Raleigh and Sarah Arnott, of California; siblings, Philippe Maheu and Tony Maheu, of Georgia, John Maheu, of Oregon and Adele Maheu Christoff (Richard), of Florida; dear friend and mother-in-law, Shirley Kruse, of Florida; grandchildren, Wyatt and Tess Arnott and Ramsie Arnott-Ali; and so many loving family members and devoted friends.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Adopt an Angel, P.O. Box 15095, Wilmington NC 28408.
